Microneedling is a non-invasive but extremely effective rejuvenation treatment which harnesses your skin’s natural ability to repair itself. Using very tiny needles to puncture the surface of the skin, it stimulates a healing response, causing your skin to kickstart its collagen and elastin production.
Microneedling can treat and improve: Wrinkles, Fine Lines, Facial Scars, Enlarged Pores, Stretch Marks, Skin Texture, Acne, Acne Scars, Body Scars, Lip Lines, Hair Loss/Balding, Skin Pigmentation Issues, Rosacea, Loose Skin (such as after weight loss or liposuction) and more!
At the Geomare Wellness Center & Spa we use The SkinPen by Bellus Medical, the first Microneedling Device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Microneedling Questions and Answers
How Does Microneedling Work?
The channels created during the microneedling procedure kick-start the skin’s natural healing process. However, no tissue is destroyed, and the microscopic punctures close up quickly. At this time, collagen and elastin production is increased in the affected area. This results in a thicker dermis, or skin, as well as softened scars and wrinkles.
Am I a Candidate for Microneedling?
Microneedling is safe for all skin types, so you can undergo this procedure whether you have normal skin, oily skin, dry skin, or some other skin type. The ideal candidate for collagen induction therapy is someone who is looking for an effective, fast, affordable way to minimize or eliminate various imperfections, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun damage.
Where Is the Microneedling Procedure Performed?
Microneedling treatments are administered using handheld devices. The procedure is gentle and easy. If you opt to have microneedling performed by the Geomare Wellness Center, the procedure will be conducted right in our spa.
Is Microneedling Painful?
A topical numbing cream is applied to the area before carrying out Microneedling treatments to ensure any pain is minimized. Variable treatment intensities allow us to further control the comfort of the treatment.
How Is Microneedling Performed?
Microneedling at home is typically performed using a roller with small needles that are rolled on the skin to create microscopic punctures in the skin. Our Microneedling therapy treatment, however, utilizes the Bellus Medical SkinPen device that is swept over the skin while the needles extend and retract. The extension and depth of the punctures are controlled by the settings on the pen and depend upon your specific needs. Topical products are often applied prior to treatment as well, so they can be better absorbed during the treatment.
How Long Does It Take?
The length of time that it takes to complete a microneedling treatment depends on various factors including the severity of the imperfection as well as the size of the area that is being treated. In most cases, however, this procedure can be completed in 30 minutes to an hour, so there is no need to set aside an entire day for treatment.
When Will I See Results From My Microneedling Session?
For some minor imperfections, you may notice results immediately after undergoing microneedling treatment. However, for more extensive imperfections like deep scars, multiple treatments are generally required. With each subsequent treatment, you should notice more and more improvement. As an added bonus, this procedure boosts the production of elastin and collagen, so the appearance of your skin will steadily improve as it heals from the treatment.
When Can I Go Back to Work After Microneedling?
You shouldn’t have to take any time off work at all to undergo a microneedling treatment. In fact, patients sometimes come in for a treatment and go immediately to work after the procedure. Regardless of the severity of the imperfections that are being treated, you should be able to resume all of your usual activities immediately.
How Long Do Results Last?
Results from microneedling tend to last for extended periods of time. Many people notice permanent improvements with issues like hyperpigmentation, scars, sun damage, and other imperfections. Most of the time, multiple sessions (about 6-8) are needed. Over time, additional treatments may be required to maintain the appearance of your skin.
Are There Any Risks?
This procedure is very safe for all skin types. At the very most, you may experience mild, temporary redness at the treatment area. You will be thoroughly evaluated during your initial consultation, and your provider can inform you if there are any special considerations to make regarding potential risks.
Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Undergo a Microneedling Treatment?
Microneedling is noninvasive and completely safe for all skin types. The only situation in which a person may be told not to undergo this procedure is if they have an imperfection that is unlikely to be resolved through this type of treatment. However, microneedling effectively treats most common skin imperfections.
What Is the Recovery Period Like, and what Is The Aftercare Advice for Microneedling?
After your treatment, your skin will appear red and flushed, which is a good sign that the treatment is working and this will subside within a few days. SPF 30 should be worn daily following on from the treatment for at least two weeks. An ongoing effective daily skincare regime is crucial to help promote and achieve optimum results. We highly recommend using the Skinfuse skincare line, to cleanse, hydrate and fortify your skin. These products were developed specifically for use following SkinPen treatments, and were designed to support skin after microneedling treatments for up to 90 days. These products exclude ingredients found in many topical products that can hinder the remodeling process, such as silicone and parabens.
